bullet Who are the Governors?

The Governing Body is made up of Parent, LEA, Staff and Community Governors. The chair of governors is Mrs. J. Cro. For the full list of governors see governors by category.

Each of the governors sit on sub-committees. Each sub-committee has responsibility for a specific aspect of school organisation.

Governors also have responsibility for subject mentoring.

bullet Aims

The governors work with the headteacher to:

  • employ staff.
  • provide a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum.
  • put together school policy e.g. Discipline.
  • maintain high standards and ensure the progress of the school.
  • decide how the school budget is spent.
  • foster good relations with parents and the local community.

bullet Policies

The governing body is responsible for setting school policy. Click the links to view school policy on behaviour (see also letter from advisory headteacher - Mrs T German and class behaviour steps), discipline, attendance and homework.

bullet Annual Reports

Governing bodies are no longer required to hold an annual parents' meeting or produce a governors' annual report. The report has now been replaced by the School Profile (see below).

bullet School Profile

A School Profile will take the place of the governors annual report for schools. The format of this profile has been agreed. It includes, where relevant, sections on the school's performance, pre-populated with data supplied by the DfES, as well as narrative sections for the school to complete that include the following headings:

  • What have been our successes this year?
  • What are we trying to improve?
  • How have our results changed over time?
  • How are we making sure that every child gets teaching to meet their individual needs?
  • How do we make sure our pupils are healthy, safe and well-supported?
  • What have we done in response to OfSTED?
  • How are we working with parents and the community?

Every school will required to produce an annual school profile, starting in the academic year 2005/06. Schools will be able to start preparing their profiles from spring 2005.

When complete, profiles will be accessed by schools and governing bodies through TeacherNet and GovernorNet respectively. Parents will be able to read profiles on the DfES Parents Centre website. Hard copies will also be made available.
